This package contains the iOS SDK for the Dropbox Sync API and Dropbox Datastore API.
The Sync and Datastore APIs are both available as part of a single framework. Installation instructions for Dropbox.framework can be found here.
This framwork can be used on devices running iOS version 5.0 or higher. You can build your application using Xcode 5 or higher.
To learn how to build your first app using the Datastore API, follow the Datastore tutorial.
There is also a Sync API tutorial to show you how to read and write files from Dropbox.
There are two Xcode projects in the Examples directory with examples of how to use the Datastore and File Sync API.
In "Files Examples.xcodeproj", you can find three example apps that demonstrate the basics of the File Sync API:
The HelloDropbox example app demonstrates the same basic functionality as the online tutorial: listing a folder, and reading/writing a file. It prints results as text to the screen. HelloDropbox requires iOS 5.0 or later.
The Notes example app demonstrates a note editing app built with the Sync SDK. This application demonstrates how to read and save files with the Sync SDK, how to use the API to create files and folders, and also how to observe files and folders for changes and update a view of the file or directory's contents when the contents change. Notes requires iOS 5.0 or later.
The ImageGrid example app demonstrates how to use File observers and more properties of the FileStatus class to update a UI with changes to a file's state. This example works best when run on two devices connected to the same Dropbox account as it shows how to build an app that responds to file status changes as the changes occur. To use this app you'll need some photos to select when the image picker appears. On a simulator, you can get some by saving them from Safari. (Drag an image onto the simulator, then long-touch and select Save.) ImageGrid uses UICollectionView and requires iOS 6.0 or later.
You can install the Xcode docset by running the following command from this directory:
cp -R com.dropbox.Dropbox.docset ~/Library/Developer/Shared/Documentation/DocSets
Then restart Xcode to complete the installation.
