A simple light weight "polite" KVO observer that removes itself automatically when observed object deallocates... instead of rudely crashing
- iOS 8.1+
To run the example project, clone the repo, and run
NBPoliteObserver is available through CocoaPods. To install it, simply add the following line to your Podfile:
pod "NBPoliteObserver"
Add the following files to your project
NBPoliteObserverObject.h
NBPoliteObserverObject.m
NSObject+NBPolite.h
NSObject+NBPolite.m
Import NSObject+NBPolite.h
to your class (or bridging-header if its a swift project)
#import <NBPoliteObserver/NSObject+NBPolite.h>
Use exactly as you would use Foundation KVO, just call addPoliteObserver
instead of addObserver
var object:NSObject? = NSObject()
object!.addPoliteObserver(self, forKeyPath: "keyPath", options: [], context: nil)
object = nil // Try this. It will NOT cause a crash
The polite observer will remove itself automatically when (before) the observed object is deallocated... so this is completely optional.
Use exactly as you would use Foundation KVO, just call removePoliteObserver
instead of removeObserver
object!.removePoliteObserver(self, forKeyPath: "keyPath")
